Hill College hosts Dual Credit meeting for area ISDs

Hill College hosted a “Best Practices in Dual Credit” meeting for service area ISD superintendents, principals and counselors Oct. 30 at the HILCO Civic & Event Center in Itasca. ISD personnel had options to choose among several breakout sessions depending on their interest.

Hill College President Dr. Pam Boehm welcomed superintendents, principals and counselors.

Noelle Barnes, director of academic advising and success; Kathleen Pustejovsky, director of student information services; Regina Paneitz, director of dual credit; and Rachael Esparza, accounting technician, presented “Preparing Students for the Dual Credit Experience.”

Susan Gann, dean of math and science; Dr. Kayla Kelly, dean of career and technical education; Lori Moseley, dean of health and public services; and Nancy McKenzie, dean of arts and humanities presented “Building your ISD’s Education Plan” a discussion on alignment of curricula, core curriculum and program expansion. The group also presented on adjunct instruction, including adjunct instructor qualifications, professional development and the sharing of a college level instructional experience.

Barnes presented on student success resources including general advisement, tutoring, disability services, career services, success workshops and Moving Forward that aim to support learning. 

Pustejovsky and Barnes presented “The Path from High School Graduation to the Full-Time College Experience,” a discussion on financial aid, scholarships, transcript requests and other assistance provided to seniors to prepare for the college experience after high school graduation. 

Joe Shaughnessy, director of educational support services, and Charlene Awadjie-Ihedioha, faculty development coordinator, presented on learning management system Schoology and other information resources available to students. 

Vice President of Instruction Dr. Kerry Schindler presented renewals of memorandums of understanding as well as House Bill 5 agreements.

Representatives from Abbott, Alvarado, Blum, Burleson, Bynum, Cleburne, Covington, Glen Rose, Godley, Grandview, Hillsboro, Hubbard, Itasca, Joshua, Kopperl, Meridian, Mount Calm, Venus and Whitney ISDs were in attendance, as well as a representative from the Brazos River Charter School.
